These two lion cubs were born in June of last year.  Their parents were a gift from the country of Sudan to the ruling family of Qatar.  Their mother died in child birth and the Emir didn’t have the facilities to properly care for a pride of lions so they have placed them in American zoos.  The father is in Detroit and the cubs (which are triplets) are here in Denver.  This may not be their final home but it was exciting news for the American zoos as these lions have African ancestry unrelated to any other lions in American zoos.  Due to the many rules and regulations to protect lions most all of the ones in American zoos have been raised in captivity or were born to parents that were raised in captivity.  Adding in genetic diversity will benefit the American prides.
